Guest editor, JSIE special issue on 'Environmental Sustainability and Internationalization'

Together with my good friend and colleague, Dr Laura E. Rumbley of the European Association for International Education, I'm delighted to be guest editor for an upcoming special issue of the Journal of Studies in International Education (JSIE) focussed on 'Environmental Sustainability and Internationalization'.

With both practitioners and scholars launching a rallying cry for action, I'm delighted to help advance our understanding of the connections between environmental sustainability and internationalisation by way of this special issue.

The call for submissions for this special issue is now live, and we look forward to receiving manuscripts by 01 April 2022.

Dr Douglas Proctor has over twenty years’ experience in international education across the higher education, vocational and ELICOS sectors, both as an academic and senior manager.

Douglas returned to Australia from Ireland in July 2021 to take up the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. Previously he was Director, UCD Global at University College Dublin, Ireland’s Global University.

Douglas holds a PhD in international higher education at the University of Melbourne. In 2018, he co-edited a Routledge book with Dr Laura Rumbley entitled ‘The Future Agenda for Internationalization in Higher Education’, which gave primacy to next generation perspectives as well as focusing on dimensions of internationalisation that are known to be under-researched.

Douglas serves as Chair of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) Publications Committee. Based on his experience and contributions to the sector, Douglas was recognised as a Senior Fellow of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) in September 2019.
